Baneswar Shiva Temple is located just 10km away from the city center, this temple is home to a 10ft deep Shivalinga and an Arthanarishwar statue.

During Madan chaturdashi and Dol Purnima, the deity takes a scenic procession to the Madan Mohan Temple, making joyful sight.

And if you thought the temple itself was interesting, wait until you hear about the pond. It’s filled with turtles, and not just any turtles – we’re talking about ancient, wise tortoises that have been around longer than anyone can remember. One thing you might not expect to find at a temple is a big pond full of Black softshell turtles, also known as ‘Mohans’. These turtles are considered sacred and are a vital part of the temple’s ecosystem. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of one swimming by during your visit.

Legend has it that the temple was established by Raja Banasura, but the truth is shrouded in mystery. Some say it was built by Raja Jalpeswar, while others believe it was constructed by Raja Nilambar or Maharaja Nara Narayan. Whoever built it, we’re glad they did, because the present structure is a sight to cheer. With its slightly curved cornish and two entrances, this temple is sure to leave you feeling awestruck.
