Aritar Gumpa, also locally known as Ari Gumpa has views of the lush green mountains, winding roads, and the serene Lampokhri Lake.

It’s one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim belonging to the Karma Kagyu lineage order of Tibetan Buddhism.

The four-hour scenic drive from Gangtok via Pakyong or Rangpo is a pleasant one.

Once you arrive at Aritar Gumpa, immerse yourself in the rich traditional Buddhist art and literature. Take a stroll around the peaceful surroundings and admire the finely carved and exotically painted murals, ancient manuscripts, and traditional architecture.

Do check out the nearby attractions such as Aritar Lake (Ghati-Tso), where you can enjoy a peaceful boat ride. Take a trip to the nearby traditional villages to experience the fascinating culture and local way of life. And last but not least, visit the hilltop Mankhim Temple for its religious significance and tranquil surroundings.

The monastery is open every day from 9 am to 5 pm, but be cautious of heavy snowfall and rain if you plan to visit during the winter months. To truly bask in the serene beauty of this ancient gumpa, we recommend visiting between May to July.
