The ruins of Achalgarh Fort stand tall, narrating tales of bravery and power from the bygone era. Located about 11 kilometres from the beautiful hill station of Mount Abu in Rajasthan, India, this fort is a true testament to the architectural genius of the ancient times.
As you step through the huge gate, known as Hanumanpol, you’ll be transported back in time to the 15th century when the fort was built by the Paramara dynasty rulers. The fort complex, now in ruins, is home to a number of historical and religious attractions, each with its own unique story to tell.
The first stop on your tour of the fort is the famous Shiva Temple, or the Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple, where the toe of Lord Shiva is worshipped. The temple is surrounded by a brass Nandi statue that adds to the religious significance of the place. If you’re lucky, you might even spot three stone buffaloes taking a dip in the nearby pond.
As you make your way through the fort, you’ll come across the Jain temples, built in 1513, that showcase the exquisite architectural style of the past. And, if you’re in for a little adventure, a hike to the top of the hill where the fort is located is a must-do.
