The historical fort of Vijayraghavgarh is seated in the town of Vijayraghavgarh, which was named after the fort located in the district of Katni in Madhya Pradesh. Vijayraghavgarh fort was constructed by the son of Maihar king Bisan Singh: Thakur Prayag Das. (Thakur Prayag Das has a child who’s named Saryu Prasad Singh after the younger freedom fighter.) in 1826 C.E. The fort has many places of interest; some of them are Rang mahal, Bramha chabutra, Sita temple, Samadhi sthal, Gupt dwar Rani ki Rasoi, Antah puram etc. The fort was the victim of the famous revolt of 1857 when it was attacked by the British.

In the attack some part of this royal asset was damaged. The fort is made up to sandstone and is surrounded by a deep trench like the Red Fort of Delhi. It was dedicated to Lord Vijayraghav. King Prayagdas took part in freedom struggle in 1857 and blocked the supply line of EastIndia company force (Jabalpur-Kolkata). But with the help of Rewa-King, British forces won the battle and Prayagdas was captured by police. He was produced in court and death punishment has been awarded to him. Prayagdas was hanged till death and his Samadhi(shrine) was made in Katni city. At present given shrine became victim of ignorance and turned into garbage dumping area. Some of the captured soldiers were sent to Jabalpur jail. While transfering them from Vijayraghavgarh to Jabalpur, some of the were hanged on the trees present on the both sides of National Highway number-7 at Sleemnabad town. Sleemnabad is about 30 kms away from Katni on Jabalpur road.Vijayraghavgarh is 32 km from Katni. Daily bus services are available every 10 minutes from Katni to Vijayraghavgarh. The railway station is around 35 km away. Airport Jabalpur is 135 km away.view less
