Upli Burj, or as the locals call it, the Hyder Burj is a historical monument in Bijapur in Karnataka.

This towering watchtower was built in the 16th century by the famous commander Hyder Khan. Standing at a height of 24 meters, Upli Burj boasts two massive cannons at the top and offers a panoramic view of Bijapur city. It was constructed to strengthen Bijapur’s security and served as an important watchtower in ancient times.

This beautiful cylindrical building features a winding staircase around the main structure that leads to the top level. And trust me, the view from up there is breathtaking! You’ll be treated to a vista that will leave you speechless, and it’s worth framing in your living room.

But before you plan your visit, here are a few things to keep in mind. The stairs to the top are steep, so if you’re not in the best physical shape, you might want to skip this one. And don’t forget to carry plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun since Upli Burj is an open building with no shade.

But don’t worry, the climb is worth it! And if you’re a history and architecture enthusiast like me, you’ll appreciate the skilled craftsmanship that went into creating this towering structure. The Upli Burj is one of Bijapur’s most popular tourist attractions, and it’s not hard to see why.

So, when’s the best time to visit Bijapur, you ask? Well, I recommend planning your trip between October and February when the weather is mild and pleasant. Summers in Bijapur can be quite hot and humid, so it’s best to avoid them. But you can still visit during the monsoon season and enjoy the city’s lush greenery.
