Welcome to Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the oldest and most beautiful temples in Udaipur district, Tripura. Legend has it that the toe of the right foot of Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva, fell at this very spot. But that’s not the only fascinating thing about this place!

The temple is in the shape of a tortoise and is also known as Kurma Peeth, thanks to Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshana Chakra. It’s said that Lord Vishnu cut Sati into 51 pieces, and the places where her parts fell became known as the Shaktipeethas. This temple is one of them, and it’s considered one of the holiest Hindu shrines in the country.

The temple’s structure is small, measuring just 24 square feet at the base and 75 feet at the height where Goddess Parvati is worshipped. But don’t let the size fool you – it’s packed with history and beauty that attracts tourists all year round.

One of the most interesting features of the temple is the two exact images of the same deity present inside. The idols are named Tripura Sundari (5 feet high) and Chhotima (2 feet high), and the idol of Maa Kali is worshipped in the form of Soroshi.

But that’s not all! The temple is also home to the Kalyan Sagar Lake, where you can find different varieties of aqua species, including huge tortoises. Devotees feed biscuits and puffed rice to the fishes, but be warned – no fishing is allowed here!

If you’re planning a visit, keep in mind that photography is not allowed inside the temple, and you’ll need to remove your footwear before entering. And if you’re not a fan of animal sacrifices, you may want to check the timings with the authorities or locals and steer clear of the temple during those times.

All in all, Tripura Sundari Temple is a must-visit destination that will leave you in awe of its beauty and history. So come on down and explore the temple and its surroundings – just make sure to watch your step, so you don’t get caught in the bloody aftermath of the animal sacrifices!
