Nestled in the stunning Yumthang Valley in North Sikkim, this sanctuary is home to more than 40 different species of these beautiful flowers. So, if you’re looking for a place to experience a riot of colours, you have come to the right spot!

But it’s not just about the rhododendrons. The sanctuary is surrounded by the mighty Himalayas and is filled with various species of plants and trees like Saxifrages, Aconites, Potentillas, and Gentias, just to name a few. And let’s not forget about the birds! Keep your eyes watchful for wood snipe and hoary-throated barwing soaring high in the sky.

The best time to visit this sanctuary is from April to July when the azaleas are in full bloom, and the valley is filled with a burst of colours. You’ll be mesmerized by the scenic beauty of the Yumthang Chhu river meandering through the sanctuary, making it the perfect spot for nature lovers.

For those who love adventure, trekking through the Yumthang Valley is a must-do! You can hire a taxi from Yumthang to Gangtok, or if you’re feeling adventurous, trekking from Yumthang is an excellent way to explore this beautiful place.

Just remember to avoid visiting during August and September when heavy rainfall can make the roads inaccessible and travelling becomes quite difficult.

So what are you waiting for? Come and experience the beauty of the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, and witness the magic of nature in all its glory.
