Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is near Ribandar island near Panjim in Goa. It is a bio diversity spot of mangroves with brackish water and Mandovi river estuary.
The bird sanctuary has a natural trail covering 1 kilometer which can be used to observe birds. It is spread across an area of over 440 acres.
Nature lovers, can hire a boat from the nearby jetties to view birds. It costs INR 900 for a group. The best time is early morning. You can hear a lot of birds but to view, you need to be patient. There is also a mangrove nursery here.
According to officials, there are more than 100 varieties of birds can be observed any time. The greatest attraction is western reef heron, black bittern, jack snipe etc.,
