Looking for a royal experience with a touch of adventure? Look no further than the Monsoon Palace in Udaipur! Perched atop a hill, this former royal residence has a fascinating history that includes an astronomical observatory and a hunting lodge.

From the royal balcony, you can see the entire city of Udaipur, including its lakes, palaces, and forts. And if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of some of the wildlife that calls the surrounding Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary home.

The palace itself is a sight to cheer, with its grand central court, high turrets, and intricate carvings. And if you’re a fan of James Bond, you might recognize it from the 1983 film Octopussy, where it served as the residence of the villain.

But perhaps the most impressive feature of the Monsoon Palace is its underground harvesting structure, which was designed to collect rainwater in the arid climate of Rajasthan. Unfortunately, it proved to be inadequate, and the palace was eventually abandoned.

Now, the palace is open to the public, and for a small entry fee, you can explore its grandeur for yourself. Just be prepared to pay a little extra if you arrive by auto rickshaw or car.
