Ramakkalmedu is a charming little village in Thekkady in Kerala. It is here the hills are alive with the sound of adventure! Located on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, this place is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. With its stunning panoramic views of the sunrise and sunset, Ramakkalmedu has quickly become a favorite destination for thousands of tourists every year.

And the best part? You don’t have to be a hardcore adventurer to enjoy the beauty of this hill station. You can take a leisurely walk up the hill or ride a jeep to the top, where you’ll find the magnificent statue of Kuravan and Kurathi, designed by the talented architect C B Jinan in 2005. Legend has it that Lord Rama himself stepped onto the Ramakkalmedu peak during his search for Ravana, which is why this place is often referred to as “God’s Own Hill Station.”

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you can try your hand at hiking, paragliding, trekking, or camping. With its thick evergreen forests and natural habitat for a variety of birds and animals, Ramakkalmedu offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and hamlets of Tamil Nadu. And don’t forget to take a jeep safari tour for a thrilling ride through the mountains and to catch a glimpse of the wind farm.

But the adventure doesn’t stop there! You can also visit the grape farm in Cumbum, where you’ll see firsthand the cultivation of grapes in a vast vineyard. And if you’re up for it, take a ride through the Periyar Tiger Reserve and see the massive waterlines that carry water from the Mullaperiyar Dam for irrigation to the regions of Tamil Nadu.

As the sun sets over the hills, sit back, relax, and take in the magnificent view of the clouds sparkling like melting gold. And if you’re camping on the hilltop, don’t forget to bundle up, as it can get pretty chilly at night. Ramakkalmedu is truly a wonderland of natural beauty and adventure, just waiting for you to explore it!
