Pukzing Cave in Mizoram is one of the biggest cave in the state.
This is not a cave trip for the faint of heart. With a width of 25 meters, you’ll need to bring your spelunking gear and your courage!
Legend has it that the cave was scooped out from the hills using only a hair pin by the legendary Mualzavata, a man who could clear one hundred ranges of forest in just one day! We can’t guarantee that you’ll meet any forest-clearing legends on your journey, but you will find three spacious chambers of about 4 sq. meters each connected by narrow passages.
But wait, there’s more! The infamous Maurawkela is said to have hidden the Magical Drum inside the cave after taking it from a troop of monkeys who were conjuring fruits by beating it.
To get to the cave, you’ll need to travel to the small village of Pukzing, located in the West Phaileng Tehsil of Mamit district in Mizoram. The nearest town is Mamit, known for its oranges, and the nearest airport is Lengpui airport of Aizawl. Just be prepared for a three and a half-hour drive! You can also catch a bus from Mamit to reach the village.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your gear and head to the Pukzing Cave for a thrilling adventure. And who knows, maybe you’ll be the next legend carved into Mizoram’s history!
