Medak Fort is a 800 year old heritage fort and has brilliant architecture. It is located on top of a hill with three entrances – Prathama Dwaram”, the “SimhaDwaram and ‘the Gaja Dwaram’
It was built during the 12th century under the reign of the Kakatiya ruler, Pratapa Rudra and it was initially called ‘MethukuDurgam’ in Telugu. The fort also has seen some contributions from Vijayanagara kings.
It served as a command post as well as a granary for Kakatiyas.
