Lodhi Gardens, is a 90-acre paradise located in the heart of New Delhi.

This city park is home to some of the most magnificent architectural works from the 15th century, created by the mighty Lodis who ruled over northern India and parts of modern-day Pakistan. The gardens are now protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, making sure that the beauty of this place remains intact for generations to come.

Have you ever heard of a place that is both historically significant and a hub of morning fitness routines?

Well, look no further because Lodhi Gardens is the place to be. This lush green garden is located between Khan Market and Safdarjung’s Tomb on Lodhi Road and is the perfect place for a morning stroll or jog.

If you’re taking the metro, don’t worry, the nearest metro station is Jor Bagh and JLN Metro Station on the Violet Line.

Lodhi Garden was once known as ‘Lady Willingdon Park’, but after India gained independence, it was renamed to pay homage to the mighty Lodis. The gardens are a favourite among locals and tourists alike, and it’s not hard to see why. The contrasting beauty of the mausoleums and the lush greenery make for a breathtaking view that you just can’t miss.

Ready for some history lesson? Let’s start with the Tomb of Muhammad Shah Sayyad. This is one of the oldest tombs in the garden and was built in 1444 by Ala-ud-din Alam Shah as a tribute to the Sayyid ruler, Muhammad Shah. The main complex of the tomb is octagonal and has a central dome with arches, verandahs and ancient fortification structures, making it a perfect combination of Hindu-style symbolism and Islamic ornamentation.

Next up, we have the Bara Gumbad, which is a large rubble dome located in the midst of the garden. It might look like a tomb, but it’s actually a passage to an adjoining three-domed mosque. The mosque and the Bara Gumbad were both built in 1494 during the rule of Sikander Lodi, making it one of the oldest structures in the garden.

Last but not least, we have the Sikandar Lodhi’s Tomb. This tomb was made in the image of Shah’s tomb and is an important example of Lodhi architecture. It even houses the remains of battlements within it, making it a must-visit for history buffs.

In conclusion, Lodhi Gardens is a place where history and nature come together to create a magical experience. So, pack your bags, grab your sunscreen and head over to this magnificent garden for an experience that you won’t forget.
