Lepcha Museum is in Kalimpong is a fantastic initiative to preserve the culture and values of the Lepcha tribe that resides in the areas around Darjeeling, Sikkim, Nepal, and Bhutan. And let me tell you, it’s not just any ordinary museum!

The museum is a personal collection of the legendary Shri Sonam Tshering Lepcha, who is a Padmashree and banga bhushan award recipient for his amazing folk songs and dance. And when I say personal collection, I mean it! This 89-year-old showman personally guides through the museum, played folk tunes, and even sang for you. At one point, you will feel like he was the museum himself!

The museum showcases relics and objects of everyday use like articles of worship, musical instruments, handicraft items, manuscripts, and more, all used by the Lepcha people.

It’s a great way to know their culture and tradition, and it’s beautifully portrayed in the museum.

And if you’re looking for some adventure, there are plenty of activities to do near the museum. You can try paragliding for the first time and experience what it feels like to fly high in the sky. Or explore the local flavors by shopping at the Hatt Bazaar. If you’re a book lover, Kashi Nath and Sons is a heaven for you with its great collection of books on culture, tradition, and religion.

Trekking in Kalimpong is a must-do, and it’s excellent for trekkers who love exploring different routes and ways. And don’t forget about rafting in the river Teesta, which will be a unique experience for visitors. So what are you waiting for? Head to the Lepcha Museum and have an adventure of a lifetime!
