Khetri Mahal , also known as the Wind Palace is in Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. This classic example of palace Shekhawati art and architecture is a must-see for anyone traveling through Rajasthan.

Constructed by Bhopal Singh around 1770, the Wind Palace is a ruin that has stood the test of time, attracting tourists and locals alike. Bhopal Singh was the grandson of Sardul Singh and a wealthy Thikana under the rule of Jaipur. In fact, it’s said that the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur was built on the model of the Khetri Mahal!

Located at the western end of Nehru Bazaar, this ancient palace is famous for its brilliant architecture and gorgeous frescoes. The Wind Palace boasts of elaborate frescoes and gorgeous arches, giving it an airy and open look. It’s also known for its beautiful paintings and murals, and the most unique thing about the palace is that it doesn’t have any windows or doors – only open arches and openings in the wall!

The several levels of the palace are connected by ramps and slopes, making it easy for horses and carts to move inside and out. This was a convenient mode of transportation for the noblemen of the time. In addition, the palace has private chambers of Thakurs that still have two alcoves with older paintings, though most of them are in ruins.

The entry to the palace is at the base of the monument through a student hostel, and the view from the top of the palace is breathtaking. You can see the old Muslim quarter, Pirzada Mahalla, and the rest of the city in all its glory.

So, there you have it, folks! The Khetri Mahal is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, and art. Trust me, this place is anything but a windfall!
