Jaitak Fort is a breathtakingly beautiful fort that sits atop a mountain, offering panoramic views of the countryside. At an altitude of 1479 meters above sea level, this fort is a true hidden gem that’s waiting to be discovered.
Unfortunately, Google Maps won’t take you directly to Jaitak Fort as the narrow road leading to the fort is not yet on the map. But don’t let that stop you from finding this treasure! Just keep an eye out for a small school on your left and take a sharp left turn from there. After about a kilometer, you’ll find yourself at the entrance to Jaitak Fort.
The fort has a rich history, with the last recorded action taking place during the war with the Nepalese generals in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Despite the fort’s age and history, much of it has been lost to wars, floods, landslides, and vandals. However, two significant remnants of the fort remain – the twin turrets. One of the turrets has been converted into a helipad, while the other houses the Royal Guest House.
If you are lucky, you can be greeted by warriors in full war attire. The oriental influence was evident in the design of the guest house, with the lounge and living room separated by a door with a lock that weighed over 10-15 kgs! The lock was larger than a book and the key reminded us of the hooks we have in the bathroom to hang clothes.
