Gwalior Zoo, also known as Gandhi Zoo, is a section of the beautiful Phool Bagh garden, established way back in 1922 by the royal family Madhao Rao Scindia. The zoo boasts of various rare species of animals such as golden peasants, sambhars, bison, hyena, spotted deer, black bucks, and even a white tiger.

The 8 hectares of land that make up the zoo have been declared a protected site, and are well-maintained by the Municipal Corporation of Gwalior. Apart from the animals, the Phool Bagh campus also includes a gurudwara, a mosque, a theosophical lodge, and a prayer hall, making it a great place for a family outing.

A word of caution though! Be careful with your belongings as there is an abundance of monkeys in the area. Also, feeding the animals is prohibited, and littering the area can lead to heavy fines. And if you plan to photograph the animals, make sure you pay the camera charges beforehand.

The Gwalior Zoo is easily accessible via local transport or personal vehicles. The Phool Bagh Gurudwara stop is the nearest bus stop for those arriving by bus.

In summary, the Gwalior Zoo is a great place to visit, especially for families with kids and wildlife enthusiasts. It’s a protected site, and the animals are well taken care of. So, if you’re ever in Gwalior, don’t miss out on this unique experience.

Oh, and one more thing – the zoo is closed on Fridays, so plan accordingly!
