Chapramani Wildlife, is a place, where you can spot majestic elephants roaming around freely, and if you’re lucky enough, you might even catch a glimpse of the Indian bison, which are not exactly rare in these parts.
We’re also talking about rhinos, deer, boars, and leopards. However, don’t expect to see any Bengal Tigers here. Chapramari is also a paradise for bird watchers, with parakeets, kingfishers, and green pigeons all over the place. If you’re an avid photographer, this is the place to be.
Did I mention the funny story about a leopard? In 2009, a leopard was causing havoc in Dooars, so the authorities decided to capture it and release it into Chapramari. I guess they thought it would be a nice vacation spot for the big cat. Let’s just hope he’s still alive and minding his own life.
For the visitors, there is a watch tower tour. Here, one can choose from four different time slots for the tour, and if you’re feeling adventurous, go for the last one, where you can enjoy some tribal dance at the end of the tour. It’s included in the ticket price, so why not?
One thing to keep in mind: you need a photo ID card and its copy to get the forest permit. But trust me, it’s worth it. Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is only 30 km from Chalsa and Lataguri, and it’s a biodiversity hotspot. There’s a watch tower in the central area that offers a mystical view of the entire sanctuary. It’s an absolute bliss. Don’t miss it!
