Berjam Lake is fresh water lake in Kodaikanal hill station in Tamil Nadu.

It is a wonderful spot for picnic and to spend time with nature on a vacation.

The lake is around 22 kilometers from the Kodaikanal town, and one needs a forest permit to enter the lake territory. It is given at INR 200/- per car for tourists. However, there is restriction of only 200-300 vehicles per day is allowed. Two wheelers not allowed.

The place is lush green with nature during monsoons, and it is a nature enthusiast delight. The journey to the lake is also mesmerizing. It is a must visit spot for avid bird watchers.

How to reach here ?

The place is roughly 30 kilometers from Kodai Town centre. One can take a cab or autorikshaw to reach this place. Please enquire around about forest permit before visiting there.

Few hundred meters.

Yes. The water will be ice cold and may not be ideal for swimming.

Is there any entry tickets?

Yes. One has to purchase entry permit for car which is INR 200/-. Two wheelers not allowed. If you are not travelling by car, you can use the forest department bus.

History of Berjam Lake?

In the year 1864, Colonel Hamilton has marked a report about Berijam Lake area as the best site in the Palani Hills for a military cantonment or Sanatorium. Later, a military outpost was built here, Fort Hamilton, was named after him. Berijam lake was artificially created in 1867, when Collector of Madurai, donated part of his personal retirement funds for building the dam. Now, the dam and reservoir were enlarged and a pipeline was built to supply drinking water to the Periyakulam Municipality.
