Bekal Fort is a must visit just fort in north Kerala. It is fort built by Shivappa Nayaka of Keladi in 1650 AD. It is one of the largest fort in Kerala, worth visiting just for the sweeping views of Arabian sea from the fort and from the beach. It spreads across 40 acres of land with large walkways, tunnels, water tanks, guns.
The fort is near Mangalore and who is touring Mangalore can visit this fort. Be prepared for a long walk around the fort, carry lot of refreshments. There is a Hanuman temple as well as a mosque is inside the fort. The fort tourist activities are promoted by Bekal Tourism Development Corporation
