Atal Tunnel, also known as the Rohtang Tunnel? is a horseshoe-shaped highway tunnel that connects Manali and the Lahaul-Spiti valley.

It is the world’s longest one above 10,000 feet. The tunnel is constructed in the Pir Panjal ranges, under the Rohtang Pass, and it’s an all-weather tunnel that has made it possible to enter the valley, which is usually landlocked during the winter months. So, you can visit this place all year round.

The North End of the tunnel brings visitors into Sissu, which is surrounded by high peaks. You’ll feel like you’re in the middle of a postcard.

The tunnel is 9.02 km long and is the highest highway single-tube tunnel above 10,000 feet in the world. That’s right, you’ll be driving on top of the world. With the existing Atal Tunnel and after the completion of under-construction Shinku La Tunnel, which is targeted to be completed by 2025, the new Leh-Manali Highway via Nimmu–Padum–Darcha road will become all-weather roads. So, pack your bags and hit the road, folks!

Overall, driving through the Atal Tunnel is a unique and exhilarating experience. You’ll feel like you’re on top of the world, literally! So, if you’re planning a trip to Himachal, make sure to add this tunnel to your itinerary. Trust me, it’s worth it!
