Abhaneri Stepwell is located just 20 km from the vibrant city of Jaipur in Rajasthan, India. This architectural masterpiece, also known as Chand Baori, is one of the largest and most intricate stepwells in Rajasthan, serving as a crucial water source for villagers and tradesmen in the region for centuries.
But the Abhaneri Stepwell is much more than just a functional structure. Dedicated to Harshat Mata, the goddess of Happiness and Joy, this well is a stunning example of ancient Indian sculptural style and mathematical precision. And despite being over 1,000 years old, it has remained remarkably well-preserved.
The well has a total of 3,500 steps that lead down to a depth of nearly 20 meters, with 13 floors in between. The stairs encircle the water on three sides, while the fourth side boasts a pavilion with beautifully carved jharokhas and galleries supported on pillars.
