Auroville, is a land of peace, harmony and delicious food!

Located just 15 km from Pondicherry, this experimental township is where people from across the world come together to live in perfect harmony. And let me tell you, it’s a pretty cool place to be.

Founded by Mirra Alfassa (aka ‘The Mother’) in 1968, Auroville is a hub of uninterrupted education and progress, where people of all cultures and traditions live together on the principles of peace, harmony and sustainable living. The township is home to over 2,800 people from 195 different nationalities, all living together on this barren land that has been transformed into a lush green paradise.

Auroville has some of the most amazing restaurants and cafes, serving up a delicious range of cuisines from around the world. And trust me, it’s not just about the prices they charge, it’s about the mouth-watering food that they have on offer. Make sure you check out The Solar Kitchen and La Terrace, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of the restaurants here. Auroville is truly a foodie’s heaven.

Auroville also has over two dozen farms under the Auroville Farm Group, each using various eco-friendly farming philosophies. The woods resound with the melody of birds and are filled with bamboo stalks, banyan trees, and thorn fences. The ‘work’ tree is a popular wood source, and the wildlife includes flocks of birds and huge flying fox fruit bats. The woods are also guarded by ferocious-looking cactus plants. Overall, Auroville’s farms and woods are a beautiful and magical place to visit.

Now, if you’re wondering what to do in Auroville, let me give you a suggested itinerary.

On Day 1, explore the township and sample the multicultural cuisine available and make sure you have permission to enter the famous Matrimandir and devote the day to meditating in the serene gardens surrounding it. And on Day 2, check out the shops and cafeteria that sell handmade products like incense, pastries, clothing, accessories and spend the evening at the Auroville beach.

Overall, Auroville is an amazing place to escape to for a few days, especially if you’re in search of peace and tranquility. So come on down, sit in one of the cafes and talk to some of the residents here about their experience of living in this universal town.
