If you’re planning to visit the beautiful city of Gangtok, then don’t forget to check out the Saramsa Garden, also known as the Ipecac Garden. This recreational public garden is located just 14 km from Gangtok and is a perfect picnic spot for you and your family.

The garden was established back in 1922 by the Forest Manager Bhim Bahadur Pradhan, and was initially meant for growing fruits for the local colonial officers. However, when growing ipecacuanha became a hit, the garden transformed into an orchidarium and a recreational garden for picnickers.

And let me tell you, the garden is not just a treat for the eyes but for all your senses. With its exquisite range of different coloured flowers and surrounding lush greenery, you’re going to be left mesmerised. You can also get involved in recreational activities like volleyball and football and even attend functions and meetings at the convention centre.

The Saramsa Garden is divided into several blocks to make it easier to navigate, and you can even find a small footbridge that’s built over a pool with different-shaped plants in one of the blocks. Another block has a bench built under the shade of the trees for the visitors to relax.

So, if you’re tired of exploring the city and want to get one step closer to nature, then Saramsa Garden is the perfect place for you. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the musical fountain and swimming pool, the recent additions to the garden.

You can easily reach the garden by using local transport or a private vehicle. A taxi can drop you off at the garden, and it takes nearly 45 minutes from the city centre.
